Fish is considered as healthiest animal protein for humans. Eating fish at least twice a week is recommended for protection against heart disease, stroke, diabetes, BP, and even for the human brain. It has been a part of our diets, particularly in Assam for centuries. Fish is very easy to source in Assam, it is very easy to cook and can be fried, boiled, or roasted. Even in Assam, the method of fish meal preparations varies from place to place, and of course, all have very unique and pleasant tastes.
Fish is always a good source of protein will all major nine Amino Acids present in it. As protein is required for almost every body function, it is, therefore, having adequate protein ensures a healthy body, blood, and immune system.
The entire NE including Assam doesn’t have adequate fishery infrastructure in spite of having all the resources. We import more than 20000 tons of raw fish from other states. The fish grower in this region is unorganized and there is also limited production of fish seeds in the Assam and NE regions.
Considering this Mahabahu Fisheries Pvt Ltd has started production of commercial Fish Seeds in Assam since 2016. It has its own Nursery Fish pond having 5 hectares with a plan to expand to more than 20 hectares in the next 5 years. - Rohu : Rohu (Labeo Rohita) is the most important among the three Indian major carp species used in carp polyculture systems. This fish is most famous and popular because of its taste and high market demand. We also bring spawn for Jayanti Rahu from the Govt of India approved hatcheries and produce the fry, fingerlings, and Drop Out Seeds of Jayanti Rahu which are genetically improved Rahu by CIFA, ICAR, GoI. Jayanti Rahu grows 30% faster than the existing Rohu, it has attractive body colors and shows disease resistance traits.
- Catla : (Labeo Catla), one of the renowned and fastest-growing major carps. It is non-predatory and its feeding is restricted to the surface and mid waters. We produce Catla seeds in our hatchery from the highly productive brooder stock. The Drop out Catla seeds of our farm can attain a weight of 4 kg in a growing season. We offer dropout seeds and fingerlings as per the requirement of the farmer.
- Mrigal : Mrigal carp (Cirrhinus cirrhosis), also known as white carp, is a species of ray-finned fish in the carp family. It is a popular aquaculture freshwater species that is widely farmed as a component of the polyculture system of three Indian Major Carps along with Catla and Rohu. Because of its attractive body color and taste, it has a great market demand like Catla and Rohu. We produce millions of Mrigal seeds and almost all sizes of seeds are available in our farm throughout the season.

In addition, we also produce Amur Carp fish seeds. It is an improved variety of Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio), has 27% faster growth, its body is slender & belly is smaller than the common carp. It is a disease-resistant carp, accepts artificial feed, and has a similar food habit to that of the Common Carp. Our company keeps all sizes of Amur fish seeds ranging from fry – fingerlings – yearlings (dropouts). It is evident that Fry size Seeds of our farm can attain a weight of 1200 grams in one year provided there is a good management practice.
Our farm also keeps a nursery of Rupchanda and Kosh (Pangus) by importing spawn from Bangladesh.
